Young moose hangs around Entiat
ENTIAT, Wash.
Leave the moose alone. That’s the advice the state Fish and Wildlife Department is giving to residents of Entiat.
The Wenatchee World reports a young moose has been hanging out around town for two weeks and resting on lawns.
Wildlife Sgt. Dan Klump says cooler weather usually triggers moose to move on, and agents are hoping this one soon travels up the Entiat Valley.
If there’s a confrontation with humans, agents would have to tranquilize the moose and relocate it — a major operation that’s traumatic for the animal.
Clean Port Townsend beach, get free beer
PORT ANGELES, Wash.
Help clean a beach, get a free beer.
That’s the deal volunteers got at the Pourhouse craft beer taproom in Port Townsend.
The Peninsula Daily News reported volunteers had to register with the Marine Science Center in the parking lot. They were assigned to a beach and asked to record what kind of trash was collected. The information will be compiled as part of the Ocean Conservancy’s International Coastal Cleanup Day.
Volunteers who bought the trash and information back to the Pourhouse received one free beer.
Brazil soccer club ousted after masseur makes two saves
SAO PAULO
A sports tribunal has removed a Brazilian club from the fourth-division playoffs because its masseur stepped onto the field and made two key saves near the end of a match.
The tribunal also suspended masseur Romildo da Silva for 24 matches and fined him about $250 for helping club Aparecidense this month.
With the match against Tupi tied 2-2, Silva lurked from behind the net and entered the field when a Tupi player cleared the goalkeeper and appeared to have an open shot on goal. He blocked two-consecutive shots, allowing his team to advance to the competition’s quarterfinals.
Enraged Tupi players chased Silva from the field, and police grabbed him for his own protection.
Tupi needed the victory at home to reach the next round. Now Tupi will replace Aparecidense in the quarterfinals.
Aparecidense club officials say they will appeal the tribunal’s decision.
