Campbell man faces drug charges

CAMPBELL — Police stopped a car at Van Buren and Courtland avenues for failing to stop at a stop sign, then arrested the driver on drug charges.

After officers initiated the traffic stop at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, they noticed what appeared to be the remains of a marijuana cigarette in the car's ashtray. When questioned by police, however, the driver — identified as 29-year-old Jean C. Martinez of Campbell — said he didn't have anything illegal in the car.

Martinez and his underage passenger then got out of the car, and police searched it, finding a plastic bag containing suspected marijuana and $1,591.

Martinez was charged with possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia, as well as endangering children, and cited for failure to stop at a stop sign.

His court date is Friday in municipal court.
