GROVE CITY, Ohio

Authorities in central Ohio say a woman was fatally struck by car when she attempted to cross a stretch of an interstate outside Columbus after her vehicle ran out of gas.

The Franklin County sheriff’s office on Monday said 29-year-old Ashley S. Dennison, of Grove City, had been traveling southbound on Interstate 71 when her car ran out of gas and she had to park next to the median. Dennison later crossed to the far right side of the freeway to meet some friends who were there to help her.

After Dennison’s boyfriend was dropped off behind her car, she attempted to cross back to the median, but she was fatally struck.

Authorities say the investigation is ongoing. The driver who hit Dennison was not arrested and isn’t facing charges.
