Planetarium stars align, spell love for Ga. couple

MACON, Ga.

The way the stars aligned inside a Georgia planetarium caught the 22-year-old woman by surprise, spelling out the question: “Krystal Sanderson Will You Marry Me?”

Sanderson’s boyfriend, Alan Gilbert, was behind the weekend message that appeared at the planetarium of the Museum of Arts & Sciences in Macon. One of their first dates had been under the stars, and they regularly enjoyed gazing up at the night sky.

So the 23-year-old Gilbert persuaded Sanderson to join him at the planetarium Sunday. The Telegraph newspaper reports the couple sat through a 30-minute show about prehistoric sea creatures before the big question appeared on screen — against a backdrop of Earth and stars while music played.

Others attending the show applauded when Sanderson, no longer in the dark, accepted the ring.

Floods in NM washes up mysterious casket

AZTEC, N.M.

Flooding in New Mexico washed up an unexpected item in one small city — a casket.

The Daily Times reports that the rusty casket washed up in an arroyo near Aztec Speedway during the recent flooding in northwestern New Mexico.

The casket’s appearance mystified Aztec Well Servicing employees, and when an employee opened it he found what he thought were bones.

But Aztec Police Sgt. Joseph Gonzalez said nothing but trash, towels and junk were inside.

Anti-zoning advocate Carl Bannowsky, who lives near where the body-less coffin was found, says he’s sure the mysterious casket is his.

He says one of his three caskets washed away during a recent monsoon rain.

Bannowsky says he collects old cars but had purchased the casket at an auction in the 1980s.

Burglary suspect falls through ceiling in Calif.

SAN FRANCISCO

A burglar who tried to break into an ATM at a bank in San Francisco was arrested Friday after he hopped onto the roof of a nearby building to escape and fell into an apartment, police said.

“There was a hole in the roof where he fell through just as we were ordering him to put his hands up,” police Sgt. Wilfred Williams told reporters. “I’ve responded to several different silent alarm calls at banks, but this is the first time when someone fell through a roof.”

The 230 pound suspect was not seriously injured.

Police said he had tried to use a crowbar to break into the ATM inside a Bank of America branch in the Portola neighborhood. The man apparently got into the bank through a ventilation shaft, which triggered a silent alarm. He was spotted by officers as he fled, police Chief Greg Suhr told KPIX-TV.

Officers notified the K9 unit after realizing the burglar had fled onto the roof. A fire department ladder truck was called in as part of the search.

The suspect was spotted on the roof. As he was trying to surrender, he fell into the apartment. Police said no money had been taken.
