Staff report
YOUNGSTOWN
Frightmare Forest Haunted Hayride, 2061 Atkinson Ave., will be open each Thursday to Sunday in October.
The hours for the hayride are 7 to 11 p.m. Thursdays and Sundays, and 7 p.m. to midnight Fridays and Saturdays. On Halloween night, the ride will be open from 7 p.m. until all patrons are gone.
The organizers of Frightmare Forest also are hosting a Pumpkin People display contest that is free to enter and open to all ages.
Participants must supply all their own materials, including pumpkins, though Frightmare Forest will have a limited number of pumpkins for sale during set-up. Participants may complete a display as a group or an individual, but only one display will win.
In the case of a tie, Frightmare Forest staff will vote between the tied contestants. The winner will receive $100, and the winnings will be available at 4 p.m. Nov. 1. All participants will receive one free pass to Frightmare Forest Haunted Hayride, good for the 2013 season, upon completion of their display.
Participants may set up displays from noon to 6 p.m. Sept. 30, Oct. 1 and 2. Tear-down will be from noon to 6 p.m. Nov. 1, 2 and 3.
All artwork must be original; use at least one pumpkin; do not exceed a 3-by-4-foot plot; don’t use materials that may be harmful to animals or the environment; and complete by 6 p.m. Oct. 2. Materials not picked up by 6 p.m. Nov. 3 will be discarded.
