Cops get 85,000 ‘likes’

An Ohio police chief who invited followers of his department’s Facebook site to his small town’s community festival this weekend reports the popular page has exceeded 85,000 “likes.” Brimfield Township Chief David Oliver started the department’s Facebook page three years ago.

hoping to reach a few hundred people in his northeast Ohio community. But his posts mixing humor, blunt opinion, community engagement and rants against “mopes” — criminals and other ne’er-do-wells — draw an audience well beyond the department’s roughly 10,000-resident service area.

The department dedicated its 85,000th “like” milestone Saturday to veterans — “who more than self their country served.”

Oliver said more than 1,000 visitors signed up for this weekend’s Brimfest. Facebook posts Saturday showed people rolling in despite rainy weather.
