Gov. John Kasich has appointed a McDonald man as a student member to the Youngstown State University board of trustees.
Eric A. Shehadi will serve two years in the seat. He also is a member of the McDonald Village Board of Education. He is a math major at YSU.
Robbery indictment
PITTSBURGH
A federal grand jury has indicted a Farrell, Pa., man on federal gun and robbery charges in the armed robbery of a convenience store in his hometown.
Joshua Stewart, 20, is charged with robbing the B&M Market on Dec. 20, 2011. During the robbery, a gun was fired and cash and cigarettes were taken, the U.S. attorney said.
Stewart faces 10 years to life in prison in this case, which was investigated by Southwest Mercer County Regional Police, the Mercer County District Attorney’s Office and the FBI.
New gas rate
YOUNGSTOWN
City officials announced a 12-month fixed rate of $4.59 per Mcf of natural gas for members of the city’s Natural Gas Program through IGS Energy.
The new rate will start in November and run through the October 2014 billing cycle. It is for residents and small commercial-business customers. Rate-change notices from IGS Energy should be received by customers shortly.
Mcf is the volume of 1,000 cubic feet of natural gas and is used to measure natural-gas usage.

Man robs store
Boardman
A masked man robbed a Lockwood Boulevard convenience store at knifepoint late Thursday night.
An employee at Circle K told police that about 11:15 p.m., a man entered the front of the store, brandished a knife and demanded money. The employee opened the cash register, and the man grabbed money from the drawer and ordered the employee to the back of the store. The robber then fled on foot.
The employee ran through the woods and a creek, losing his glasses, to reach a nearby business to call police.
Drug arrest

Police said they found 28 bags of suspected marijuana on a man who was questioned for walking in the street on the North Side late Thursday.
An officer on patrol on Broadway Avenue about 11 p.m. spotted Marlin T. Black, 20, of Youngstown, walking in the middle of the street, which is against city ordinances.
When the officer stopped to question him, Black was shaking and appeared nervous and he smelled like raw marijuana, reports said.
The drugs were found after he was searched, and he was taken to the Mahoning County jail.
MS Super Walk
YOUNGSTOWN
The Multiple Sclerosis Super Walk 2013 begins at 10 a.m. Sunday at the Wick Recreation Area in Mill Creek MetroParks.
The walk is a 4-mile course through Mill Creek Park. Walkers secure donations on either a per-mile-walked basis or a flat amount. Prizes are awarded to walkers based on the amount of money they raise and turn in Sunday.
Prizes awarded to the top money raisers are: first place, 22-inch flat-screen television; second, pair of running/walking shoes up to a $100 value; and third, a $50 gift certificate.
