POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in Poland and Boardman townships:

POLAND

Sept. 9

Theft: A Canfield man reported 120 prescription tablets stolen while at a Center Road medical center.

Sept. 10

Burglary: To a home in the 3100 block of Denver Drive through a rear-basement door, though police found no signs of forced entry. Two TVs were taken.

Sept. 11

Domestic violence: Bradley A. Roszler, 25, of North Lima Road, Poland, was charged with the crime after his common-law spouse reported having been a victim.

Sept. 12

Theft: A man reported the theft of several firearms as well as numerous tools, pieces of jewelry, medications and other items from his Arrel Road residence.

BOARDMAN

Sept. 12

Theft/vandalism: A Gretna, La., man who owns a residence in the 100 block of Mayflower Drive found out a former tenant who had been evicted stole numerous appliances and light fixtures, and damaged parts of the home.

Theft: A $10 flashlight was removed from a car in the 6900 block of Tippecanoe Road.

Sept. 13

Theft: A worker for Eagle Rentals, 6132 Market St., told police a man rented but failed to make payments on a 60-inch plasma TV before learning that he may have pawned the item.

Burglary: To a garage in the 7600 block of Huntington Drive. A pack of cigarettes was stolen from a vehicle.

Assault: Police responded to a distraught person in the 8400 block of Market Street, where they took into custody 32-year-old Russell A. Rogers of Old North Street, Columbiana. Rogers was wanted on a Columbiana County warrant charging assault.

Burglary: To a vacant home in the 4600 block of Southern Boulevard after a side door was forced open, though nothing appeared to have been stolen.

Theft: A Tippecanoe Road man reported two lawn mowers, a leaf blower and other items were removed from his property.

Menacing: A Prestwick Drive woman told officers her former boyfriend has made unwanted contact with her on more than 300 occasions. Preceding her complaint, the man reportedly had acted suspiciously in the 4000 block of Hillman Way and led police on a foot chase, they said.

Assault: A Canfield woman reported another woman pushed her during a confrontation in the 400 block of Boardman-Poland Road.

Theft: Michael R. Maynard, 32, of Poland Avenue, Struthers, was picked up on a theft warrant. He was accused of stealing cologne and bottles of vitamins from Walmart, 1300 Doral Drive.

Breaking and entering: Someone forced open a side door to a vacant residence in the 4600 block of Southern Boulevard before stealing copper piping.

Theft: A man stole at least 10 packages of undergarments from Dollar General, 859 E. Midlothian Blvd.

Burglary: Took place in the 100 block of Shadyside Drive through a rear door before a man in blue jeans and a gray hooded sweat shirt was seen running in the rear of the home and jumping a fence.

Theft: A man and a woman tried to steal three sets of curtains from Family Dollar, 4028 South Ave.

Burglary: To an apartment in the 7300 block of Bonnie Place via a rear sliding-glass door. Stolen were an iPhone device and about $70 in change.

Criminal damaging: Someone in the 400 block of Boardman-Canfield Road used a key to damage three of a vehicle’s door panels as well as its rear fender.

Theft: A $200 global-positioning-system unit was taken from a car parked in the 1100 block of Red Tail Hawk Drive.

Theft: A man leaving a Doral Drive store noticed a one-gallon bucket of paint missing from his vehicle.

Arrest: Robert D. Wrobel of Willow Drive, Boardman, was taken into custody when police discovered Wrobel, 27, was wanted on a probation-violation charge from Ashland County. The original charge was larceny.

Theft: Herbert R. Cross, 40, of Francisca Avenue, Youngstown, was charged with stealing $104 worth of shrimp and steaks from Giant Eagle, 1201 Doral Drive.

Sept. 14

Harassment: A Mathews Road woman said her former boyfriend made unwanted calls, including a retaliatory threat to contact Mahoning County Children Services Board to have her children taken from her.

Citation: Officers at the scene of a vehicular accident in the 4600 block of South Avenue cited John H. Toy Jr. of Mabel Street, Youngstown. He was charged with operating a vehicle impaired and leaving the scene of an accident.

Criminal mischief: Eggs were tossed at two cars in the 1300 block of Hunters Glen Drive.

Theft: A man stole a 32-inch flat-screen TV and an estimated $1,500 worth of clothing from Walmart, then fled in a gold Chevrolet Blazer vehicle.

Menacing: An employee with a lawn-care business told officers that while cutting grass in the 7600 block of Spring Park Drive, an angry neighbor struck his riding mower with a shovel and made a threat after accusing the worker of crossing the property line.

Citation: A traffic stop near Mathews Road led to a citation charging 27-year-old Christina M. Gay of St. Andrews Drive, Canfield, with operating a vehicle impaired.

Theft: A woman stole a $97 hair-extension item from Hair Depot, 4026 Market St.

Harassment: A Jaguar Drive man said his former girlfriend made two unwanted calls to him.

Possible theft: A woman reported her $300 cellphone lost or stolen while in the 4900 block of Market Street.

Harassment: A Mathews Road woman told officers her former boyfriend has made such calls to her continually since early August.

Sept. 15

Criminal damaging: Someone kicked in a basement window, causing $100 in damage to a residence in the 40 block of Maple Drive.

Burglary: Occurred in the 4100 block of Hudson Drive through a side window before a Sony PlayStation 3 system and a related accessory as well as a gold wristwatch were taken.

Menacing: A worker with a Southern Park Mall business told police a man entered and threatened him with a stun gun.

Citation: Police on Market Street stopped and cited Kevin J. Stypa, 36, of Cuyahoga Falls on a charge of operating a vehicle impaired.

Theft: A man stole a $450 baby stroller from Babies “R” Us, The Baby Super Store, 1240 Doral Drive.

Criminal mischief: Eggs were thrown on a driveway and a car in the 7600 block of Huntington Drive.

Felonious assault: Police charged 46-year-old Lueberta Greer of Mathews Road, Boardman, with felonious assault and domestic violence after her former boyfriend alleged Greer had stabbed him with a knife during an altercation at her residence.

Criminal damaging: A car in the 400 block of Boardman-Poland Road was found with damage to its front windshield wipers.

Identity fraud: An Appleridge Drive woman found out someone had tried to use her credit card to make about $10,000 worth of fraudulent online purchases.

Menacing: A Prestwick Drive woman alleged her former boyfriend threw rocks at her window and has sent a few weeks’ worth of unwanted text messages.

Criminal damaging: Someone tossed eggs at three buses that belong to a business in the 700 block of Boardman-Poland Road.

Sept. 16

Breaking and entering: Around $1,000 worth of copper piping was removed from a Southern Boulevard residence after its rear door was kicked in.

Harassment: A Locust Avenue woman saw that someone had posted personal information about her on Facebook without her consent.

Drugs: A traffic stop near Indianola Road resulted in 29-year-old Jermaine D. Bell’s arrest. Bell, of Philadelphia Avenue, Youngstown, was wanted on a Liberty Township warrant accusing him of failing to appear in court on a drug-possession charge.

Assault/theft: While responding to a shoplifting situation at Walmart, police charged Brandon M. Hamilton, 21, of South Jackson Street, Youngstown, with two counts of assault on a police officer and one each of theft and intimidation. After stealing a pair of blue jeans and threatening to beat up an officer, Hamilton spit in two officers’ faces, a report said.

Arrest: Authorities in the 4200 block of Stratford Road pulled over and took into custody 31-year-old Rocole Pless of Shields Road after learning the Boardman woman was wanted on a Trumbull County warrant charging failure to appear in court.

Criminal damaging: Someone painted a series of derogatory words, messages and caricatures on a building in the 600 block of Boardman-Canfield Road.

Unauthorized use of a vehicle: A South Avenue man said a woman and her friend took his 2007 Chevrolet vehicle and refused to return it.

Aggravated menacing: A woman told authorities a man riding a bicycle on Willow Drive threatened to burn some of her family members and yelled profanities at her.

Drugs: Amanda S. Perez of Division Street, Youngstown, was arrested during a traffic stop near Melrose Avenue when authorities learned the 23-year-old Perez was wanted on a warrant charging failure to appear in court on one count of possession of drug-abuse instruments.
