Ice hockey teams have workouts
The Canfield Cardinals varsity and developmental ice hockey teams will host preseason workouts beginning Sept. 23 at 7 p.m. at the Ice Zone in Boardman. The varsity team is open to any Canfield High School student and is a member of the OHSAA. The Developmental team is sanctioned USA hockey and open to all area athletes in the fourth through eighth grades and do not have to attend the Canfield schools. Practices will be on Mondays at 7 p.m. and Wednesdays at 5:45 p.m. until the season begins in November. Lady Cards plays Bay Village
Canfield Lady Cardinals were recently hosted by the Rockets of Bay Village. In a game controlled by Canfield, Paige Bidinotto scored for Canfield. Six of the Cardinals players registered shots on goal: Olga Condoleon and Elena Billy each with one, Sophia Mancini and Cheyenne Story each with two, Bailey Fischer with three, and Paige Bidinotto with four. Senior goalkeeper Victoria Villano ended the game with seven saves.
Boys soccer claims victory
The Canfield boys soccer team improved their record to 3-3-1 with a victory over the Marlington Dukes Sept. 14. Senior Ronnie Mangie and junior Nick Phillips scored for Canfield. The Canfield goalkeeper, Jeff Joseph, had four saves on the day and the Cards had 12 shots.
Canfield takes second
Canfield placed second with a score of 169 at a tri-match against Kent Roosevent (147) and Warren JFK (198) at the Tamer Win Golf Course Sept. 12. Top players for Canfield were Christina Cooper (40), Kerra Loomis (42), Michele Whiteleather (42), Gina Cerimele (45) and Kaci Carpenter (45).
Lady Cards defeat Hubbard
The Lady Cards soccer team travelled to challenge the Lady Eagles of Hubbard. Canfield’s record improved to 5-1 with a 5-0 shut out of Hubbard. With 20 shots on the night, goals in the first half were scored by Sophia Mancini, Paige Bidinotto and Bailey Fischer, and goals in the second half were claimed by Elena Billy and Paige Bidinotto.
Girls golf wins match
The Canfield girls golf team defeated Poland 168-211 Sept. 10 at Diamond Back Golf Course. Top players for Canfield included Christina Cooper (39), Gina Cerimele (42), Olivia DeMartino (43) and Kerra Loomis (44).
Canfield topples Poland
Canfield volleyball recently defeated Poland 3-0 (25-12, 26-24, 25-14). Top players for Canfield were Morgan Leonard with six kills, Emma Hartshorn with seven kills, Rachel Rafoth with 36 digs and Marcella Adams with 12 digs.
Girls soccer defeats Niles
The Canfield girls soccer team defeated the Niles Red Dragons 2-0. With 17 minutes left in the second half, Cheyenne Story scored on a pass by Sydney Lewis. Less than a minute later Marisa Severino scored the second goal of the game. The Cardinals are 4-1 on the season.
CHS seeks head coach
Canfield High School is accepting applications for a girls’ head track coach. Anyone interested in applying is asked to call 330-533-5341 and/or e-mail gcooper@canfieldschools.net.
