Bench warrant issued for Kelly Pavlik in cab case

CANFIELD — A bench warrant for failure to appear was issued for former boxing champion Kelly Pavlik today.

Pavlik was to be arraigned in Mahoning County Area Court on a misdemeanor theft charge over the failure to pay a $25 cab fare earlier this week.

His attorney Damian Billak asked that the case be continued until Tuesday but Judge Scott Hunter refused and issued the warrant almost one hour and 45 minutes after he was scheduled to appear.

The charge was filed against Pavlik after he called for a cab to take him home from a South Meridian Road bar to his Canfield Township home and he refused to pay the fare

The driver called 911 and the charge was filed by the Mahoning County Sheriff's Office.
