Candidate Crea out of jail, sentenced to probation

YOUNGSTOWN — Mayoral candidate John M. Crea is out of jail after being found guilty today of aggravated menacing and disorderly conduct, both misdemeanors.

Judge Robert P. Milich of Youngstown Municipal Court sentenced Crea, an independent candidate, to time served — he’s been in jail since his Aug. 30 arrest — as well as $390 in fines and court costs, and one year of probation with a $100 probation fee.

Crea was in jail unable to post a $7,000 bond.

Crea, 45, was charged after police said he blocked the entrance to city hall with his large dog on Aug. 30. A city security guard asked Crea to move several times, but he refused. Crea then “began yelling and cursing” at the guard as well as threaten to kill the guard and have his dog bite him, according to a police report.
