Struthers homeowner wounded in burglary attempt released from hospital

STRUTHERS — The West Lewis Street homeowner shot Tuesday morning by a burglar has been released from the hospital.

Shortly after the incident, which occurred about 2:30 a.m. Tuesday, the homeowner was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center, where he was in stable condition.

Police said he’d apparently been shot at four times, with two of those shots actually hitting him in the left arm and on the left side of his abdomen. It’s likely the burglar fired first, police added, explaining that the homeowner probably returned fire after being confronted in the basement.

The investigation into the incident continues, and police said they are considering some suspects, though no one has been arrested yet.
