Ohio college gets nearly $3M in fed money for job training

CINCINNATI (AP) — Federal funding of nearly $3 million will go to a southwest Ohio college to help unemployed workers through job-training programs.

U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Avon, said today the $2.75 million from the U.S. Department of Labor will allow Cincinnati State Technical and Community College to develop and expand innovative job training programs in the manufacturing field.

The Labor Department funding is part of the federal Trade Adjustment Assistance Community College and Career Training program.

The multiyear program is intended to expand targeted training for unemployed workers. It is especially aimed at helping those who lose their jobs or whose work hours and wages are reduced because of increased imports.

Brown says the funding also will help serve veterans and older adults interested in manufacturing jobs.
