New Coitsville cruiser heavily damaged in chase in Youngstown

YOUNGSTOWN — While pursuing a stolen car in Youngstown, a brand-new Coitsville police cruiser crashed into a telephone pole at McGuffey Road and Lansdowne Boulevard on the city’s East Side.

The accident, which involved one other vehicle, occurred shortly before 8 a.m. today.

Coitsville Police Chief Michael Morris said if the police department’s claims adjuster deems the cruiser totaled, it could be worth about $33,000.

“But if they don’t, then we have no idea,” Morris added. The accident is still under investigation by the Youngstown Police Department, which declined to comment at this time.
