BOARDMAN

Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley is having its fifth annual “Miracles and Promises” Radiothon on the Beeghly Campus, 6505 Market St., from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. today through Friday.

The radiothon, broadcast live on Mix 98.9 and 570 WKBN from the lobby of Building D, features stories about local Akron Children’s patients and the hospital’s services and programs.

All of the funds raised during the “Miracles and Promises” Radiothon stay in the Mahoning Valley to benefit local children and families. Donors can call 1-888-746-9890 at anytime during the radiothon to make a pledge, or they can donate online at www.akronchildrens.org/mv and click on “Give Today.”

In its first four years, the radiothon raised over $540,000 to support Akron Children’s promise that no child is turned away because of their family’s inability to pay, said JoAnn Stock, director of development.

Couple plead not guilty of abuse

YOUNGSTOWN

An Ellsworth couple accused of abusing the wife’s brother pleaded not guilty at their arraignments Tuesday in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court.

Michael Wymer, 35, and his wife, Heather, 30, both of North Palmyra Road, were each given a bond of $25,000 by Judge Maureen Sweeney. Michael Wymer is accused of using BB guns and blow-dart guns to discipline Heather’s brother, Scott McCrory, 24, who investigators say is mentally impaired.

An investigation began after McCrory ran away from home July 24. After he was found, he told investigators about the abuse, sheriff’s detectives said.
