Struthers man injured in gun exchange with burglar

STRUTHERS — A West Lewis Street homeowner is in the hospital after being shot early Tuesday morning by a burglar.

Several neighbors called police at about 2:30 a.m., and reported hearing gunshots in the area.

Officers from Struthers, Campbell and Poland Township responded to the residence, and discovered the homeowner had been hit by gunfire. He is at St. Elizabeth Health Center in stable condition.

Police said the homeowner confronted the armed burglar in his basement. The burglar likely fired first, and the homeowner then returned fire.

No one has been arrested yet, though police said they are considering some suspects.
