A South Side man was arrested early Monday after reports said he grabbed the neck of an officer who was checking his home because of a series of telephone calls threatening police officers and the department.

Police were called to an East Judson Avenue home about 12:25 a.m. after the 911 center received three calls after midnight threatening members of the department, reports said.

When an officer showed up, he found Gregory McGeorge, 49, on his front porch, and McGeorge was very drunk, reports said. McGeorge tried to run inside through his front door, but the officer grabbed him by his shirt, reports said.

McGeorge then turned around and grabbed the officer by the neck. Other officers arrived, and McGeorge was stunned in the midsection with an electric stun gun, but it did not affect him, reports said.

Eventually officers were able to get McGeorge handcuffed, and he was taken to the Mahoning County jail on the charges of resisting arrest and misusing 911.
