Fired Warren cop gets his job back, but no back pay

WARREN — An arbitrator has ruled that Sgt. Emanuel Nites, who was fired in December from his job at the Warren Police Department for being untruthful regarding his participation in a fantasy-football draft while on duty, will get his job back but with no back pay.

Nites was suspended one day without pay in December 2012 after an internal-affairs investigation concluded that Nites attended the draft party while on the clock.

A few days later, police Chief Tim Bowers fired Nites after new information indicated that Nites had lied while describing his participation in the draft and that he had spent two hours or more there and failed to respond to a call for service.

Nites will remain a sergeant and will have no loss of seniority.
