ENERGY STAR 2 Canfield schools earn top US EPA ratings

C.H. Campbell Elementary School has earned the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s ENERGY STAR certification.

The recognition is presented to the most energy-efficient buildings in the country.

“We are extremely pleased to receive this recognition from ENERGY STAR,” said Alex Geordan, Canfield Schools superintendent. “Our energy-conservation efforts are saving taxpayer dollars while also helping protect our local environment. Since we began partnering with Cenergistic on a serious energy-conservationSFlbprogram, we have saved over $500,000. We are proud that our energy- saving success is being recognized by ENERGY STAR.”

Canfield school buildings earning the certification include Hilltop and C.H. Campbell Elementary schools. These are the only kindergarten- through 12th-grade buildings in Mahoning County to earn the certification. To earn it, buildings must rate in the top 25 percent nationwide for energy efficiency.

The cost of utilities is the second-largest budget line-item for Canfield schools and the prices for electricity, natural gas, heating oil and water have been steadily increasing. To combat rising costs, the district entered a partnership with Cenergistic to implement a comprehensive organizational behavior-driven energy conversation program through all of its buildings and campuses.

Cenergistic guarantees the conversation program will save taxpayer dollars. Since the program was first implemented, the district has saved more than 30 percent on its energy and utility costs.
