Peer line gets $4K

Help Hotline Crisis Center Inc. received $4,000 from the Ridgecliff Foundation for operation of the Peer Warm Line.

Trained peers offer peer-to-peer, noncrisis telephone support and encouragement to individuals coping with mental health, alcohol or drug problems.

The Peer Warm Line operates from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. The number is 866-303-7337.

The program also is funded by the Mahoning County Mental Health Board, the Trumbull County Mental Health and Recovery Board, the Columbiana County Mental Health and Recovery Services Board, and the Margaret Clark Morgan Foundation.

Author to speak

Allan R. May, author of Mafia-themed crime books, will be the speaker at the CSI Y’Town program at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in the meeting room at the Boardman library, 7680 Glenwood Ave.

May penned “Welcome to the Jungle Inn: The Story of the Mafia’s Most Infamous Gambling Den,” a story of the Mafia in Warren and Trumbull County.

May’s newest book, published this summer, is “Crimetown U.S.A.: The History of the Mahoning Valley Mafia, Organized Crime Activity in Ohio’s Steel Valley, 1933-1963.”

Pink Ribbon event

Trumbull Memorial Hospital, an affiliate of ValleyCare Health System of Ohio, is having its eighth annual Pink Ribbon Run/Walk on Sept. 28.

The event, sponsored by the Trumbull Memorial Hospital Healthy Woman Program, raises cancer awareness for prevention, diagnosis and survivorship, while encouraging health and fitness.

Registration begins at 8 a.m., and the race starts at 9 a.m. Health information and vendor displays will be available. The entry fee is $12 for those who register by Sept. 25 and $15 the day of the event.

The event includes a 1-mile or certified 5K course that participants can either walk or run.

Prizes will be awarded to the top three male and female finishers overall for the 1 mile and 5-K, and in the various age categories for the 5-K.
