New Wilmington buries time capsule Saturday

NEW WILMINGTON, PA.

The dedication of the borough’s Sesquicentennial Time Capsule will take place at 4 p.m. Saturday on the East Diamond Square near Huntington Bank.

Memorabilia from the 100th and 150th celebrations will be sealed and preserved in the capsule that will be buried below the water fountain on the square.

A Heritage Medallion, bearing the inscription “To Be Opened 2038” will be placed above the capsule.

Mementos in the capsule will include photographs, newspaper articles, souvenirs, programs, fliers, history book of New Wilmington plus a video of the activities.

The video was taken by Gemini Creative Studio of New Wilmington.

“We’re also going to include a DVD player in the time capsule,” said Sherie Babb, co-chairwoman of the sesquicentennial celebration. “Technology changes so fast. We want people 25 years from now to be able to see the wonderful celebration that took place in 2013.”

During the dedication, proceeds from a raffle and other activities will be presented to the New Wilmington Fire Department, PB & J and New Wilmington’s two garden clubs.
