Luke Stork scored a pair of goals and JJ Piccinich tallied his first of the preseason, but it was not enough to power the Youngstown Phantoms past the defending Clark Cup Champions.
The Dubuque Fighting Saints won the special teams battle with a pair of power-play goals and one short-handed marker en route to a 6-3 victory over the Phantoms in Game 1 of the USHL Fall Classic East on Friday at Pan Am Arena.

BOISE, Idaho
Jay Ajayi rushed for four touchdowns and Joe Southwick threw for one score and rushed for another to lead Boise State to a 42-20 victory over Air Force on Friday night.
The Broncos (2-1, 1-0 Mountain West Conference) pulled away in the second half, outscoring the Falcons 21-3 and shutting down their running game — which rolled up 139 yards on the ground at the half.
Ajayi rushed for 125 yards on 17 carries, the sophomore’s second game with more than 100 yards rushing. He scored on long runs of 35 and 20 yards. Southwick was sharp throughout, finishing 27 of 29 for 287 yards and passes to six different receivers.

US to play Scotland in Nov. 15 soccer friendly
CHICAGO
After wrapping up World Cup qualifying, the U.S. soccer men will travel to Scotland for a Nov. 15 exhibition at Hampden Park in Glasgow.
The match is “crucial,” U.S. coach Jurgen Klinsmann says, because there aren’t many opportunities to see his team before rosters are due for next year’s World Cup in Brazil.
Following the final two qualifiers next month, there are only two more international fixture dates this year — Nov. 15 and 19. A site and opponent for a Nov. 19 exhibition are expected to be announced soon.
Plucky Kiwis at it again in America’s Cup
SAN FRANCISCO
The plucky Kiwis are at it again.
Nearly 20 years after beating Mr. America’s Cup himself, Dennis Conner, Team New Zealand is on course to scuttle software billionaire Larry Ellison’s hopes of keeping sailing’s biggest prize.
With thousands of their countrymen swarming the waterfront to cheer them on, the Kiwis need three more wins to strip Oracle Team USA of the Auld Mug. They lead 6 to minus-1, with Races 8 and 9 scheduled for today. The clincher could come Sunday.
While firmly in control, the Kiwis are taking nothing for granted. Team Oracle USA is trying desperately to figure out how to catch the New Zealanders while sailing upwind.
