Canfield Baseball Club honors 2013 championship teams

The Canfield Baseball Club had a celebration in honor of the club’s 2013 9-10 year-old Boys Ohio District 2 Champions, the 2013 10-11 year-old Boys Ohio District 2 Champions and the 2013 Girls Central Region Junior League Champions at McCune Park Aug. 25.
After a welcome from Canfield Baseball Club President Rich Seaman, members of the 2013 9-10 year-old Boys Ohio District 2 Championship team was introduced by Manager Duke Starr. The team then presented its Ohio District 2 Champion banner to Seaman.
Next, Manager George Beck introduced members of his 2013 10-11 year-old Boys Ohio District 2 Champions and presented the 2013 10-11 year-old Boys Ohio District 2 Champions banner to Seaman.
The 2013 Girls Central Region Junior League Champions team traveled to Kirkland, Wash., to participate in the Junior League Softball World Series Aug. 11-17.
“On behalf of the Canfield Baseball Club, I would like to congratulate Kerry Durkin and his team on an outstanding season,” Seaman said.
Team members Ally Sammarco, Bridget Durkin, Ally Lambert, Sidney Lambert, Sydney Fabry, Maddy Johns, Mia Kindinis, Jenna Gibson, Amelia Manenti, Maura Kennedy, Kayla Troxil, Bridget Sweeney, Savannah Maas, L •orainne Fitzgerald, Ellie Dundics and coaches Tony Sammarco, Joe Lambert and Gina Mancini were introduced to the crowd of family friends by team manager Kerry Durkin.
“I would like to thank Rich and the CBC Board for their support during our historic run,” Durkin said.
According to Durkin, the team won 36 consecutive games prior to their first defeat in the World Series, with a record of 40 and three.
“This team is the district champion, the state champion and is the first ever regional champion from Canfield,” Durkin said, to wild applause.
Members of the team presented Seaman with the district, state and regional banners they earned, a plaque from the World Series with a team photo and a Central Region World Series replica jersey.
“This is what can happen when you pull together as a team, including parents. We could not have achieved this goal without our team parents,” Durkin said.
Seaman also thanked the parents and had a few words about next year.
“From the players to the parents, they all worked hard. This cannot be done without the parents. We hope to see this team up here again next year,” Seaman said.
