NILES
A Warren man who works as a Mahoning County sheriff’s deputy has pleaded no contest and was found guilty of failure to control in a July 6 traffic crash that caused serious injuries to a 44-year-old Girard woman.
Amos B. Case, 31, of Stiles Street NW, rear-ended Tracy L. Finney, 44, of Tuttle Lane, in the 1:22 a.m. crash at North Road and U.S. Route 422.
Case was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs and failure to maintain assured clear distance by Niles police after an officer said he smelled alcoholic beverages coming from Case, and Case failed field sobriety tests.
Another test indicated his blood-alcohol level was 0.037, well below the legal limit of 0.08.
The other charge was dismissed, and Case was ordered to pay $261 in fines and court costs.
Case was on medical leave from the sheriff’s office at the time of the crash.
