Bomb squad disposes of old dynamite at farm
YOUNGSTOWN
Members of the police department’s bomb squad are on their way to a Middletown Road farm in Sebring to dispose of some dynamite.
Lt. Doug Bobovnyik, head of the bomb squad, said the owner of the farm discovered the dynamite about 3 p.m. Monday.
Bobivnyik said bomb squad members poured diesel fuel on the dynamite Tuesday and let it sit for 24 hours. He said diesel fuel helps to stabilize the chemicals in dynamite and the material that was found Monday is at least 35 years old.
He said the dynamite belonged to the property owner’s father and was used on the property. He said the dynamite will be burned. There is no chance of it exploding unless it is triggered by another device, Bobovnyik said.
