Dog killed in West Side house fire

YOUNGSTOWN

A two-alarm fire gutted a two-story home on Youngstown’s West Side on Friday afternoon, killing a dog.

When firefighters arrived shortly after 2:30 p.m. the first floor of the home at 21 Glacier Ave. was engulfed in flames and fire was shooting out of second-floor windows.

Additional firefighters were called to the scene to prevent flames from spreading to other homes. Two animals were in the cellar at the time of the fire. One ran out and the other died, Youngstown Fire Department officials said.

The tenant at the home, owned by Keniel Properties, said he went out to get cigarettes and when he returned a few minutes later the house was full of smoke and fire. The cause of the blaze is undetermined.
