YSU’s Joey Cejudo was selected the Missouri Valley Football Conference special teams player of the week.
Cejudo a 6-foot-4, 220-pound junior place kicker scored 11 points in the YSU 67-13 win over Morehead State. He made the first field goal of his career, a 37-yard kick, and was 8-of-8 on PAT kicks. His eight conversions tied for the fourth most in school history.
Howland volleyball
The Howland High School volleyball team split two matches.
Howland (4-6) defeats Massillon 25-10, 26-24 as Christian Carr collected nine kills and six digs, Kara Rushin had 14 assists, 13 service points and four aces while Erin Puskas had five digs.
Green defeats Howland 25-7, 18-25, 25-21. For Howland, Cassie Murcko recorded nine kills and nine digs while Caroline Henneman had 18 service points with six aces.
Mercer Raceway
Mercer, PA.
Jack Sodeman, Jr. and Eric Williams waged a battle for the win and the track championship in the 410 Sprint Car division at Mercer Raceway on Saturday.
Williams, who lead briefly, was two car lengths short as Sodeman claimed the race.
The track’s other Sprint Car division, the Bonnell’s Collision Center Outlaw Sprint Warriors, saw the track championship decided by the final race of the night by Michael Bauer.

At Sharon Speeedway on Saturday, racing began the season’s final stretch run with a season-high 113 cars in the pit area.
Recording wins were Jeremiah Shingledecker-Governor Insurance DIRTcar Big-Block Modifieds, Will Thomas III-Barris Supply RUSH Late Models, Joel Watson-Summit Racing Equipment Modifieds, Paul Davis-Gibson Insurance Agency Stock Cars, Jacob Eucker-HTMA/Precise Racing Products Econo Mods, and Scott Gilliland-Deforest Used Parts Mini Stocks.
Hiram football defeats Westminster, 23-19

Tevin Weaver had an 84-yard kickoff return for a touchdown that proved to be the difference maker as the Hiram College football team defeated Westminster, 23-19.
The win snapped an 18-game winless streak and is only the second Hiram victory against the Titans in program history. Rob Partridge completed 15-of-28 passes for 292 yards and a score.
On defense, junior Mike Helco (McDonald) record 12 tackles (three solo and nine assists), including a half sack and an interception. Senior John Davis (Newton Falls) added 10 tackles (five solo and five assists).
Geneva rolls, 47-3

Geneva College’s football team reversed its fortunes on Saturday in a 47-3 win over Frostburg State.
Defensively, Dillon Goodell had 10 tackles followed by John Onufer with seven and Thomas Benyo with six. Geneva allowed just 248 total yards while racking up close to 500 yards of its own on offense. One year ago, Geneva gave up 56 points to Frostburg.
