MetroParks Farm will host tasty event

The Farmer & the Chef fundraiser will take place at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 21 at Mill Creek MetroParks Farm, 7574 Columbiana-Canfield Road.

This gourmet tasting event pairs local farmers and producers with top local chefs to create dishes from locally grown sources. Craft beers will be paired with the food.

The cost to attend is $50 per person. Reservations are required and limited. Call MetroParks administrative office for reservations at 330-702-3000.

Proceeds will be used to support agricultural education programs at Mill Creek MetroParks.

A bruschetta tasting showcase will be a new feature this year. Patrons will vote for their favorite toppings.

Alexa Sweeney Blackann is chairwoman. The title sponsor is Agland Co-op, which is owned by farmers from the Northeast Ohio region and supports agriculture in the community.

Other sponsors are Something New, Columbia Pipeline Group, Consumer’s National Bank, Gina Cimmento Dancers, Sweeney Chevrolet Buick GMC, Youngstown Orthopaedic Associates, Do-Cut Sales and Service and Specialty Pipe and Tube.

Participating chefs are David Armstrong, Cater 2 U; Danny Catullo, Catullo Prime Meats; Gordy Jelic-Lettieri, Gordy’s Specialty Market; Melissa Poland, Ghossain’s Gourmet Mediterranean Foods; Rebecca Cranshaw, The Georgetown; Adam Lee, The Sprouted Table; and Handel’s.

Participating farmers and producers are White House Fruit Farm, The Lettuce People, Iron Roots Urban Farm, Molnar Farms, Angiuli’s Farm Market, Lucky Penny Farms, Van Pelt Farm Market, Catalpa Grove, Huffman’s and G. Burbick Farms. Joe Maxx Coffee will supply the coffee service.
