Sept. 28 entry deadline for 'Expressions of Courage' photo competition
Staff report
NEW CASTLE, PA.
The Hoyt Center for the Arts is sponsoring “Expressions of Courage,” a black-and-white photography competition that celebrates the courage of individuals with chronic illness or disability.
Photographs should depict an individual — such as a patient, caregiver or medical professional — who is facing, caring for or treating a chronic illness or disability, and should be accompanied by a brief explanation of the individual featured.
The deadline for entries is Sept. 28, and all entries must be hand delivered to the Hoyt between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. A $10 application fee for up to two works is required.
Photographers of any age and skill level are eligible to enter, but photographs must be original, black and white, and printed to 11 inches by 14 inches. They also should be securely mounted and matted in white to 16 inches by 20 inches. The Hoyt will provide frames for the exhibition, but work will be returned to the artist unframed. Entries may be declined if they are not adequately sized or prepared for display.
Between Oct. 8 and Jan. 3, entries will be displayed in the upper-level exhibit hall of Jameson Health System’s North Campus.
Cash prizes will be awarded to the first-, second- and third-place winners, along with nine honorable-mention winners. All will be featured in a 2014 calendar, with all proceeds benefiting the HCA/JHS partnership.
