Ghoul Mansion set to open Friday in Sharon

Sharon, Pa.

Ghoul Mansion, 66 N. Main St., which has been providing seasonal Halloween entertainment for western Pennsylvania and Northeast Ohio visitors since 1994, opens Friday.

Over the years, Ghoul Mansion continuously has altered its scares and attractions, said Jim Bugos, managing partner. This year’s edition features six themes: The Dungeon of Doom, The Gauntlet of Ghouls, Scarin’ Behavioral Institute, Ghoul Mansion, The Body Shop and CarnEvil Fear 3D.

Ghoul Mansion will be open every weekend through Nov. 2. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for children under 10, with discount coupons and specials available throughout the season.

Insect projects for homeschoolers

Slippery Rock, Pa.

Jennings Environmental Education Center, 2951 Propect Road, will introduce homeschooling families to insects and monitoring projects for insects including Monarch Butterfly Watch and the Goldenrod Challenge during an event from 8:30 a.m. to noon Sept. 26.

Citizen science is scientific work, including monitoring, that can be done by members of the general public. Monarch Watch engages more than 100,000 people in its research projects each fall. Other insect programs focus on native bees and honey bees, lightning bugs, and more.

The program is designed for students age 5 or older.

Cost is $3 per person, with a maximum cost of $12 per family. Register by calling 724-794-6011, or email jenningsp@pa.gov and pre-pay by Sept. 18.
