Driveway theft
BOARDMAN
A township man found multiple items missing from his vehicle after he left it open in his driveway, according to police. Someone entered the Chevrolet pickup parked at the Basil Avenue residence sometime between Sept. 3 and 4 and stole a CD player, a GPS system, Apple iPhone Square, credit-card reader, and dryer heating-coil units, according to police.
Faulty smoke alarm
YOUNGSTOWN
A possibly faulty smoke detector caused the false alarm that brought Boardman Township firefighters to Paul C. Bunn Elementary School, 1825 Sequoya Drive, early Thursday afternoon. Firefighters responded at 1:36 p.m., but quickly cleared the scene and were sent on another call. William Baun, school principal, said a smoke detector in the inside loading area went off, but there was no fire. He said the fire department was to come back to the school today to inspect the detector. Baun said the building of pre-kindergarten through sixth grade students was evacuated in 1 minute and 20 seconds. “I’m very proud of our staff and students,” he said.
