“Life Could Be a Dream,SDRq directed by Mark Frost and Cheryl Kekel, with musical direction by Gary Kekel, Salem Community Theater, 490 E. State St., Salem. Open auditions 7 p.m. Sunday. If unable to attend, call to set up a private audition. The show follows The Crooning Crabcakes, a singing group that tries to find its fame and fortune by entering a radio talent contest. The show features classic songs from the early 1960s. Roles for four males and one female are needed. The males vocal range is from bass/baritone through tenor, but all probably should be comfortable singing falsetto; the female should be a mezzo or soprano. There is considerable performance-type dancing, as most of the numbers are choreo- graphed, so those auditioning should be prepared to demonstrate basic dance ability, read from the script and interact with others. Come prepared to sing any song, preferably in the style of the show, that demonstrates your range and ability. The age of the cast should be in, or pass for being in, their 20s. The show will run for two weekends starting Feb. 24. Music rehearsals will begin in September and be spread out through the fall to allow for conflicts (including holidays), and blocking and characterization rehearsals will start in December. Weekend rehearsals are a possibility during the music phase, and possible thereafter. For more information or to schedule a private audition, call 330-332-9688, or email the theater at salemtheatre@att.net.
