To celebrate the reopening of Giant Eagle’s Boardman Community Center store, Pittsburgh Steelers running back Isaac Redman will make a special appearance. The remodeled store opens on Sept. 5. Redman will greet customers and sign autographs on Sept. 6 from 4 until 5:30 p.m.
Clemson has best poll ranking in 25 years

Clemson has surged to its highest ranking in The Associated Press poll in 25 years after the Tigers won the biggest game of the opening weekend of the college football season.
Clemson is No. 4 in the first regular season Top 25, following its 38-35 victory against Georgia. The Tigers received one-first place vote and have their best showing in the poll since Sept. 12, 1988, when they were No. 3.
Alabama remains No. 1 and received 58 of 60 first-place votes from the media panel. No. 2 Oregon and No. 3 Ohio State flip-flopped spots from the preseason rankings. The Buckeyes received one first-place vote. Stanford is No. 5.
Leroux nets 4 as US tops Mexico, 7-0

Abby Wambach extended her world record with her 161st international goal, Sydney Leroux scored four times in the first half, and the next generation for U.S. women’s soccer blended nicely with the old guard Tuesday night as the Americans thumped Mexico 7-0 in a friendly at RFK Stadium. Rachel Buehler and Morgan Brian also scored as the U.S. squad reconvened after a 21/2-month break while the National Women’s Soccer League wrapped up its inaugural season. The Americans, ranked No. 1 in the world, ran their overall unbeaten streak to 35 games and their home unbeaten streak to 73.
Bowling group plans fund-raising event
YOUNGSTOWN
The Youngstown-Salem Women’s Bowling Association will hold a quarter auction fund-raiser on Sept. 21 at Lucianno’s Banquet Center, 1739 S. Raccoon Road (same plaza as Wedgewood Lanes). Doors open at 6:15 p.m., the auction begins at 7. Proceeds of the fund-raiser will benefit the group’s annual Awards and Hall of Fame Banquet held in October.
The event is a BYOB 21-over event and food will be available to purchase. There will be a 50/50 raffle and lottery tree raffle. Tickets are $10 per person and can be purchased from any director or at the door. For more information call 330-799-7999.
Warren all-stars win
WARREN
The Warren AA Baseball all-star team defeated the Pennsylvania All-Stars 11-2 last week. The MVP of the game was Joe Koch and Brent Bartholomew was the winning pitcher. Rick Dimuizo managed the Warren all-stars and Frank Costello and Ralph Testa were the coaches.
Greenville team wins 50 Plus Baseball title

Greenville won the 50 Plus Baseball League, Inc. National Division title on Sunday by beating Warren, 10-3 and 17-3, at Cene Park. Greenville, which entered the playoffs as the top seed with a 13-5 record, had to beat Warren twice to win the title and got solid pitching from Mike Burns and Doug Campbell.
Greenville had to fight back from a 1-0 loss in the second round to former champ Niles, and subsequently won five straight games. On Saturday Greenville beat Hubbard 4-2 and eliminated Niles 10-3. Greenville scored 41 runs over the week-end and a total of 67 in the playoffs.
