Apprentice program takes applications

VIENNA

The Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana Counties Cement Masons Joint Apprenticeship Program will accept applications for a class of cement masons and plasterers throughout September.

From 9 to 11 a.m., and again from 2 to 4 p.m. Sept. 16-20, the program will accept applications at The Builder’s Association office, 1372 Youngstown-Kingsville Road SE.

The program also will accept applications at the same times from Sept. 23-27.

Firefighters to join oil-field workshop

Firefighters from across Mahoning County plan to participate in a two-day oil- field emergency-training workshop being offered through The Ohio Oil and Gas Energy Education Program.

The event will take place Saturday and Sept. 8 in Wayne County. The workshop consists of both classroom and hands-on training. It is the first program of its kind in the country.

American offers new Pitt-LA flight

PITTSBURGH

American Airlines last week started offering daily nonstop service between Pittsburgh International Airport and Los Angeles International Airport.

The flight departs Pittsburgh at 4:30 p.m. and arrives in Los Angeles at 6:50 p.m.

The return flight departs Los Angeles at 8:10 a.m. and arrives in Pittsburgh at 3:45 p.m.

The flight will be operated by a Boeing 737 with 16 first-class seats and 134 main-cabin seats.

Regulations for oil, gas industry

A state environmental board has given preliminary approval to new regulations covering the oil and gas industry.

The draft regulations cover public parks and wildlife areas, waste management, the restoration of well sites after drilling, the construction of temporary pipelines, and other issues.

The Department of Environmental Protection said it is recommending a 60-day public comment period on the new rules, with at least six public hearings across the state.

RPM, Tremco pay $60M+ to settle suit

Ohio-based RPM International Inc. and its subsidiary Tremco Inc. have paid nearly $61 million to settle a lawsuit that argued the group filed false claims under roofing supplies and services contracts with the U.S. General Services Administration.

The U.S. Department of Justice says Tremco reportedly failed to give the government price discounts given to nonfederal government customers.

The lawsuit’s whistleblower, Tremco’s former vice president, will receive nearly $11 million.
