Youngstown crews fight two overnight fires

YOUNGSTOWN

City fire crews battled two blazes overnight Wednesday and early Thursday morning.

Reports said a fire at vacant home at 1053 Shady Run Road home just before midnight caused $10,000 in damage. The home was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived and they had to protect other homes as the vacant home burned down. The cause is listed as arson. There were no injuries.

At 1:40 a.m., crews were called to a 362 W. Midlothian Ave. home where a family was awakened by a smoke detector and managed to call 911 and get outside. Crews found a fire on the second floor, where firefighters managed to contain the blaze.

Reports list the cause as electrical. A woman who lives in the home was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center to be treated for smoke inhalation and two firefighters were treated for injuries at the scene. Damage is listed at $18,000.
