Warren man gets 10-year prison term

WARREN — Jarred Watson, 28, who killed his girlfriend’s father in an assault at their home on Dickey Avenue Northwest in May, received a 10-year prison sentence today in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court.

Watson addressed Judge Ronald Rice before the sentencing on the voluntary-manslaughter conviction, saying George L. Myers, 57, was an “uncontrollable drunk” who attacked him with a stick the day of the assault.

“We couldn’t even have kissed him goodbye on his face. It would have collapsed,” Myers’ ex-wife, Nancy Carnahan, said in a victim-impact statement. She was reading a statement on behalf of her children.

The beating broke bones in Myers’ face and eight ribs.
