Yet another oil and gas manufacturing company could be on its way to the Mahoning Valley, and if it ultimately decides to relocate to Brookfield, the J-W Measurement Co. could possibly bring 150 new jobs with it.
In an announcement that came from Gov. John Kasich’s office Monday, the Ohio Tax Credit Authority approved a 55 percent, seven-year tax credit for J-W Measurement Co.’s proposal to create $6.8 million in annual payroll.
J-W Measurement, a Texas-based company with locations across the country, has not yet finalized plans to locate a manufacturing facility, but it is said to be strongly considering the move.
The company engineers gas measurement equipment and provides supplies and services to the oil and gas industry, including engineered measurement stations, customized meter tubes, and power supply equipment.
According to a document provided by the Ohio Development Services Agency, the company would be required to maintain operations at a location in Brookfield for at least 10 years if it takes the tax credit.
The proposed project, according to the document, involves opening a manufacturing facility to produce measurement and processing equipment for the oil and gas industry. J-W measurement would acquire an existing facility at an unspecified location and make on-site infrastructure improvements in addition to the purchase of new machinery and equipment.
The document also said the company expects to create 150 full-time equivalent positions with a $6.8 million annual payroll within three years of the tax credit’s effective date.
If not for the tax credit, the ODSA said, J-W measurement would not be able to afford the high cost of training new employees here because the state is relatively new to the shale-gas industry.
The Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber also has expressed its support for the project in a letter written to the state.
