Ohio State marching band show creates national buzz

COLUMBUS (AP) — Ohio State University is known as a perennial football power, but the marching band is getting its share of national exposure these days, too.

The band’s shows have attracted the attention of national news organizations and websites, especially its tribute to blockbuster movies during halftime of last Saturday’s game in Columbus.

The tribute to movies such “Lord of the Rings,” “Pirates of the Caribbean” and “Jurassic Park” turned into an Internet sensation, viewed more than 9 million times on YouTube and shared across social media.

The band was featured on NBC’s “Today” show today, with musicians showing how they use iPads and a special program to choreograph and learn their intricate routines.
