YOUNGSTOWN

A Johnstown, N.Y., man is being held by federal authorities after he surrendered to them Monday on a charge that he crossed state lines to have sexual contact with a 14-year-old Austintown girl.

Gary C. Green Jr., 42, a security guard at Albany University, made his initial court appearance Monday before U.S. Magistrate George J. Limbert.

After Carol M. Skutnik, an assistant U.S. attorney, asked that Green be detained pending trial, Green waived a detention hearing and agreed to be held without bond. The magistrate then ordered Green detained and bound him over to a federal grand jury.

Having initiated their communication in an Internet chat room, Green and the girl exchanged cellphone photos of each other, some of them nude, between January and July 2013, according to an FBI agent’s affidavit supporting the charge.

Green drove to Ohio and engaged in sexual contact with the girl in his vehicle while it was parked in an Austintown motel parking lot Aug. 4, the affidavit said.

When the girl’s father learned of the activity and telephoned Green to complain about it, Green apologized and begged for mercy, according to the affidavit.

Green is represented by Atty. J. Gerald Ingram.
