Parking, streetcar key issues in Cincy mayoral race
CINCINNATI (AP) — Two familiar figures in Cincinnati politics are battling to become the next mayor of Ohio’s third-largest city.
Voters will choose Nov. 5 between Vice Mayor Roxanne Qualls and former city councilman John Cranley. Both have been strong vote-getters in past city races. They have served together on city council, and Qualls was mayor during the 1990s. Both have run for Congress as Democrats.
Cranley handily led the four-way, nonpartisan primary on Sept 10 amid low voter turnout.
They differ on two key local issues: Qualls supports a streetcar system for the city and leasing out the city parking system. Cranley opposes both, and would focus on improving infrastructure, private sector partnership, and job training for economic growth.
Incumbent Mark Mallory is term-limited from running again after two four-year terms.
