Humility of Mary Health Partners has launched a lung-cancer screening program that offers low-cost service based on state-of-the-art screening methods for lung cancer in high-risk patients.

People can be referred for the services by their doctor, or call Humility of Mary Healthline at 330-480-3151 or 1-877-700-HMHP. Within 48 hours, a nurse will call to review risk factors and schedule a screening at a nearby HMHP site.

The HMHP program offers a screening chest CT scan at a discounted self-pay price of $95. The cost is usually $887. The program is made possible by the HMHP Foundation.

New pediatrician

AKRON

Pediatric cardiologist Dr. Ira Taub has joined the medical staff of Akron Children’s Hospital’s Heart Center where he diagnoses and treats people with congenital and acquired heart disease.

His special interests include risk assessment and prevention of sudden cardiac death, cardiovascular issues in chronic pediatric diseases and the role of genetics in congenital heart disease.

The doctor, a graduate of Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York City, completed his pediatric cardiology fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation and his pediatrics residency at Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital in Cleveland.

National recognition

SALEM

Salem Community Hospital’s laboratory staff has earned national recognition for excellence in patient care by maintaining accreditation through the College of American Pathologists (CAP).

The biennial accreditation is based on the results of a recent on-site inspection, during which CAP inspectors examined the laboratory’s records and quality control procedures for the previous two years. The inspectors also examined the laboratory staff’s qualifications, equipment, facilities, safety program and record, and overall operations management.

Seeking volunteers

UPMC Horizon is seeking hospital volunteers in administrative and patient-care areas at its Shenango Valley and Greenville campuses. Flexible scheduling allows volunteers to work day or evening hours. Training is provided, and all volunteers receive free meals, flu vaccines and TB screenings.

Neuendorf and Dr. Kate W. Paylo, will discuss managing chronic pain and state-of-the art treatments available.
