Weingart places 1st in music competition

MUNCIE, IND.

Carson Weingart, a senior piano performance major at Ball State University, recently won first place in the Music Teachers National Association’s Young Artist Competition for the state of Indiana.

Weingart won the competition at Ball State in his age division, 19-26 years old, and will represent the state in the divisional competitions at Baldwin-Wallace University in Berea on Jan. 10.

Last spring, Weingart took first-place honors in the Ball State University Concerto Competition and won an opportunity to spend a week performing in Osaka, Japan. He also performed a solo piano concert for the Alliance Concert Association in March.

In June, he and fellow pianist and West Branch High School graduate Jarred Walker performed a duo piano concert of music from movies and Broadway musicals in the style of legendary pianists Art Ferrante and Lou Teischer.

“An Evening with Carson and Jarred, Act II” was performed two nights at the West Branch Community Auditorium and drew crowds of more than 700 people.

At Ball State University, Weingart is a double major in piano performance and business administration and currently serves as president of the Ball State Students Honors Council.

He is the son of Scott and Shelley Weingart of Salem and a member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Salem.
