Shot in leg

Police say a 26-year-old man was shot in the leg Friday night.
Police were called to a home on Sherwood Avenue at about 10:40 p.m. where they found 26-year-old Kenneth Johnson of Youngstown sitting on a chair in the driveway holding his leg, which he said had been shot.
Reports said Johnson told officers he was walking on Sherwood Avenue when two men came up to him and demanded money. When Johnson ran away, he heard a shot and ran back towards Sherwood Avenue when he realized he was wounded, reports said.
He was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center to be treated for injuries.
Salem pair indicted

A man and a woman from Salem have been indicted by a federal grand jury on charges they conspired to cultivate and distribute marijuana, laundered money and engaged in a financial transaction using marijuana trafficking proceeds. Charles S. Wilson Jr., 40, and Sandra R. Wilson, 42, conspired to cultivate more than 100 marijuana plants in their residence for purposes of distributing the drug between June and September this year, the U.S. Attorney said. The case was investigated by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and is being prosecuted by David M. Toepfer, the Youngstown-based assistant U.S. attorney.
Westlake gone
YOUNGSTOWN
A ribbon-cutting and open house will be at 10 a.m. Friday for the Village at Arlington, 516 Griffith St., the Youngstown Metropolitan Housing Authority has announced.
The 120-apartment village on the city’s North Side replaced the last remnant of the former Westlake Terrace apartments. The dedication marks the end of a 15-year project that replaced all of the 1938-vintage Westlake, which was one of the country’s first public-housing projects.
Road work meeting
GROVE CITY, PA.
A public meeting will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in council chambers in the borough municipal building, 123 Main St., concerning an intersection improvement project at state Route 58 (East Main Street) and state Route 173 (Liberty Street). Construction of this improvement is tentatively scheduled for late 2014 or early 2015, according to a press release from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.
OH WOW! donation
YOUNGSTOWN
The Home Savings Charitable Foundation recently donated $2,500 to OH WOW! The Roger & Gloria Jones Children’s Center for Science & Technology, 11 W. Federal St., downtown Youngstown.
The funds will be used as part of the 2013-14 Community Partnership Program to help the center meet its financial needs.
The foundation’s representatives will make the check presentation 2 p.m. Monday at the center.
Gypsy Lane crash
Liberty
Police are looking for the occupants of a car which crashed after an officer tried to pull it over just before 3 p.m. Saturday.
A dispatcher at the Trumbull County 911 Center said the officer tried to pull the car over for a traffic violation at Goleta Avenue and Gypsy Lane and the car did not stop. Instead it traveled about a block, hit a pole and a fire hydrant and the people inside ran away.
The dispatcher did not know how many people were in the car or if police managed to catch them.
