2 elected to soil and water conservation district board

Two people were elected to the Mahoning Soil and Water Conservation District board for 2014.

The announcement was made at the district’s 62nd annual meeting and election of board supervisors last week at Rossi Auditorium in Mill Creek MetroParks Fellows Riverside Gardens, 123 McKinley Ave.

George J. Mesaros of Youngstown and Kimberly P. Urig of Canfield were elected for a three-year term starting in January.

Mesaros and his wife and two children live, work and attend school in Youngstown. He has served on the board the past three years as the district secretary. He is in retail management for PFC Fence and Containment; is finance officer for American Legion Post 301 of Austintown; and is a member of the Northeast United States Dog Training Association.

Urig and her husband, Chris, live in Canfield, and are parents of two teenage daughters. She has been actively involved in several school booster organizations, currently serving as a treasurer for the Canfield Band Parents and as chairwoman of its annual basket-auction fundraiser every February.

She publishes the blog “Our Daily Green” as well as writing a regular column in The Examiner about green parenting. She serves as a board member of the Junior League of Youngstown and volunteers for several local nonprofit organizations.

During the meeting, the district also gave awards to honor educator of the year, Holly Burnett-Hanley; friend of the district, Mill Creek MetroParks; contractor of the year, Turner Construction; and cooperator of the year, Andrew Baltes Farm.
