South Side man stabbed in his home while sleeping


YOUNGSTOWN — Police reports say a South Side man was stabbed in the forearm while he was sleeping about 1 a.m. Thursday and hit in the head with a skillet and a hammer.

Officers called to 256 E. Philadelphia Ave. found a couple fighting on the front porch and the man, Jorge Perez, who they said was very drunk, said he was awakened by pain in his arm and his girlfriend, Shirley Ann Starks, 68, had stabbed him.

Perez told police she then hit him in the head with a skillet and hammer in the kitchen. Police found two hammers, a skillet and blood on the kitchen floor, reports said.

Perez, who was bleeding profusely, was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center for treatment. Police arrested Starks and took her to Mahoning County jail.
