Shepherd nominated for University of Akron Homecoming court

Kristen Shepherd was nominated for homecoming court for the University of Akron on Oct. 5.

Shepherd is a 2010 graduate of Poland Seminary High School and is currently a senior at The University of Akron majoring in Speech language Pathology with a minor in child development. She is also the daughter of Poland residents Attorney David and Mary Ann Shepherd.

Through her college career, Shepherd has been received numerous honors and has been involved in many activities. She is the Chapter President of Golden Key International Honors society, Recruitment Vice President for Alpha Delta-Pi Sorority, Activities Coordinator for Omicron Delta Kappa, committee chairman of planning for the National Student Speech Language and Hearing Association conference 2014 for the University of Akron.

Shepherd volunteers with the Son Rise program, with a 7-year-old child with Autism. She volunteers in the Augmentative and Alternative Communication Lab at The University of Akron.

Kristen is certified in American Sign Language. She is also employed part time as the campus operator at The University of Akron.

Shepherd was nominated for homecoming court by the Golden Key International Honors Society, which is the largest organization on campus.

The University of Akron has 30,000 students on campus. Court members are chosen for their Leadership abilities, academic achievements and involvement in University and community activities. Once nominated, the candidate is voted on by the student body and once that is completed, a presentation is made to the homecoming board for selection of King and Queen.

Homecoming Royalty was honored during the halftime celebration at the homecoming game Oct. 5.
