Lanterman’s Mill hosts Sleepy Hollow masquerade

Historic Lanterman’s Mill was turned into Van Tassel’s homestead in Tarrytown, NY for a night. Masquerade at the Mill, the Legend of Sleepy Hollow, took place Oct. 12.
Mill Creek MetroParks and HandsOn Volunteer Network partnered to host the second annual event.
“It’s a true, unique partnership among non-profits,” said Maureen Drummond, HOVN executive director.
The event included many experiences for party-goers.
Brom Bones, played by Joe Pascarella, was on hand to tell the story of the Legend of Sleepy Hollow. A tarot card reader and a fortune teller were available. The Funkes, a band that includes Nicholas Sainato, John Anthony, Clay Colley and Katelyn DeLadurantey provided music.
“The house is going to be jumping a little,” Drummond said.
A variety of refreshments were available for guests. Desserts were donated by Mocha House. Food from the Georgetown and craft beer, wine and other drinks were available.
Sisters Janine, Kylene and Erin Kamensky attended the event for the first time.
“We thought it would be a fun thing to do together,” Erin said. “And we love Mill Creek Park.”
They thought the combination of Mill Creek Park at night and the atmosphere of Halloween and Sleepy Hollow would be fun.
“We thought it would be a great thing to do,” Erin said.
Janine added, “We’re excited.”
About 100-150 people attended and proceeds from Masquerade at the Mill benefit HOVN’s services to Valley non-profits and Mill Creek MetroParks’ Lanterman’s Mill Restoration Fund.
HOVN provides volunteers and services to Mahoning Valley non-profits by equipping volunteers and organizations to use their time, talents, voices and money to meet the critical needs of our community. Lanterman’s Mill is at the point where it will need extensive repairs and upkeep over the next five years in order to maintain its operation and historical integrity.
