‘Trunk-or-Treat’

CANFIELD

The Canfield United Methodist Church, 27 S. Broad St., will host its annual “Trunk-or-Treat” event Sunday from 4 to 5:30 p.m.

Church members will pass candy out from the trunks of their decorated automobiles, and the Canfield UMC youth group will lead activities. Refreshments will be provided.

Children and their families are invited to come in costume and enjoy an afternoon of fun and games.

Fall open house set

BOARDMAN

Vista Center of Boardman, 830 Boardman-Canfield Road, will host a fall fun open house event from 2:30 to 4 p.m. Sunday. The event will be in the center parking lot; in case of inclement weather, the festival will be moved indoors.

Entertainment will include bluegrass band Border Ride, Aut Mori Grotto clowns, face painting, children’s coloring corner, a petting zoo and apple dumplings. Children are invited to wear Halloween costumes for the event.

Superman will be available for photos in the pumpkin patch, and the photos will be made available in the center’s main lobby the week of Nov. 10.

Wellness day planned

HOWLAND

A Moment for Me Yoga and Wellness Center, 8309 High St., will have its third annual wellness day Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Spa services will be offered to promote health and wellness, including a chair massage with Tami Sermulka, reiki with Sue Burns and reflexology with Mary Brown. A drumming session with Dan and Pam Susany will take place from 4 to 5 p.m.

Various products from relaxation greeting cards to items for your cat will be available to purchase. Cost for the wellness day is free, but spa services are $1 a minute.

Howland assembly

HOWLAND

Howland Schools will host an assembly of key communicators at 7 p.m. Monday in Howland High School, 200 Shaffer Drive NE. The assembly’s focus is to share with voters the spending plan for the money to be generated by the passage of the Nov. 5 levy. The public is invited.

School officials are pledging that the money from the levy will be used to strengthen education and learning and to allow the district to make progress in providing students with up-to-date technology, textbooks and security and safety upgrades.

The funds would allow for all-day, every-day kindergarten. The district will aim to retain teachers and stop student fee increases.

The levy would cost the owner of a $100,000 home $136.50 per year.

Recycling drop-off site

WARREN

The Geauga-Trumbull Solid Waste Management District is providing a new recycling drop-off site at Summit Academy School, 1461 Moncrest Drive NW. The site is open seven days a week during daylight hours.

Materials accepted in the 30-cubic-yard green recycling drop-off container are glass bottles and jar (all colors), aluminum cans and foil, steel food cans and plastics with a number 1 through 7 symbol on or near the bottom.

Those recycling at the site are asked to clean all materials and keep paper separate and dry.

Charity jar stolen

HUBBARD

Hubbard police arrested Catherine Gabrovsek, 20, of North Bloomfield in the theft of stealing a Make-a-Wish Foundation charity jar from a Shop n’ Save earlier this month. She is charged with theft, disobeying traffic control devices and reckless operation.

Crash into house

NEWTON FALLS

A female driver was not seriously injured after she crashed into a Newton Falls home Wednesday, according to Vindicator broadcast partner 21-WFMJ TV.

The driver was traveling on Ravenna Road before she crashed into the house. Speed and wet roads are believed to be the cause of the crash.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating.

SUV smashes building

YOUNGSTOWN

A sport utility vehicle smashed into a commercial brick building Wednesday afternoon on the South Side, and firefighters rescued the driver, according to Vindicator broadcast partner, 21 WFMJ-TV.

Police still are investigating what caused the driver of the Jeep Grand Cherokee to ram into the Rusco Products building at Pasadena and South Avenue.

To rescue the driver, the roof of the vehicle had to be cut. The driver was taken to the hospital. Police had no information on his condition.
