Staff report

YOUNGSTOWN

The members of the Warren-Youngstown Chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota Alumnae are planning a tribute recital to honor Mary B. Smith, longtime YSU employee and the chapter’s most active patroness, at 3 p.m. Nov. 3 in Bliss Recital Hall at Youngstown State University.

The concert has been arranged to celebrate Smith’s long and active life and dedication to SAI and to encourage additional contributions to the YSU Scholarship fund named in her memory. Smith, who died in 2012, held several positions at YSU, including registrar and director of Career Planning and Placement.

Smith, who retired in 1983, remained a vigorous YSU supporter. She was a beloved figure on campus and an active champion of students.

The concert is free and open to the public. Scholarship contribution information for the Mary B. Smith Scholarship will be available. The funds go to a deserving adult student who cannot otherwise qualify for specific financial assistance.

Those who want to contribute but cannot attend may send a check to Youngstown State University, University Development, One University Plaza, Youngstown, OH 44555, and designate the donation to the Mary B. Smith Scholarship Fund.

Sigma Alpha Iota is an international music fraternity that encourages and supports music and encourages women musicians of all ages, races and nationalities.
