Woman robbed of purse in YSU parking deck this evening

YOUNGSTOWN

Police were looking for an armed robber this evening after a woman was robbed of her purse in the Lincoln Avenue parking deck at Youngstown State University.

YSU spokesman Ron Cole said the robbery happened around 5:30 p.m. while the woman was sitting in her car. Two men walked up to her window. One pointed a gun and demanded the purse.

Police chased one suspect on foot and caught him within minutes, Cole said. Police were tracking the other suspect in the Smoky Hollow area.

YSU sent text alert messages about the robbery to students and faculty, Cole said.

Cole said there have been some robberies in recent months several blocks north of the YSU campus, but not on campus until today.
